HUA MUI RESTAURANT

"Hainanese cuisine with all its tradition is celebrated at Hua Mui Restaurant. Founded in 1946, this restaurant is reminiscent of the traditional “kopitiam” that serves Hainanese-style Chinese and Western cuisine. On the menu is a variety of western, rice, noodle, meat, sides, soups, sandwiches, bread, prata, beverages and even desserts. Most of their customers were the British when the restaurant was founded. This building used to belong to the Sultan’s sister and one of the founders, Mr Lok was her chef. Thus, he was able to obtain a special permit to serve food to the Malays. In early times, 70% of the customers of this restaurant were Malays, including the royal family and high ranking officers. There were four private rooms for the VIPs. In the 60s, they also provided wedding party services for the Malay community."
